Katie's birthday is January 25th. When she turned 31 in 2013 she decided to have a virtual 5k - Runs for Cookies Virtual 5K. I signed up and "ran" this in 2013 - it was actually my first run after we moved to Oahu in 2013. I struggled big time with the heat and humidity, but actually did 6.3 miles that day. Les and I hiked 5.7 miles on Kaʻena Point in 2014. Last year I had the flu and didn't run/walk/hike/crawl at all!

Last night I signed up for the 2016 Runs for Cookies Virtual 5K. This will be race number one of 2016. It's free, there are no medals or t-shirts, but it's a great way to kickoff the year. Funny thing, we'll be on Oahu again when this takes place!
Do you participate in virtual races?

I was an ambassador for Gone For A Run last summer. I'm not sure how that happened, but they started asking me to run their virtual races and promote them on the blog. It was pretty fun because it fit so well into my marathon training. Those runs forced me to push my pace to race pace. I also did a 13.1 for Skirt Sports.
ReplyDeleteI think signing up for a race, even if you're by yourself, is great motivation!
