Les needed to work in Santa Barbara yesterday and today, so I tagged along. It's one of my favorite cities, but this trip had a special purpose: run part of the Santa Barbara Marathon course, including the "most significant hill on the course... a half-mile segment between miles 23 and 24, climbing an elevation of approximately 170 feet."
That significant hill is no joke! It's 0.71 of a mile that does not let up. Today I parked at Shoreline Park and ran about two miles before I started up the climb (I ran down it first.) One month from tomorrow I'll hit that climb at the 23 mile mark. It's gonna hurt, no doubt!
My run profile for today:
Mile 2 to about mile 5 are the final miles of the marathon. Just before mile 7, I took a dip in the ocean according to my Garmin - looks like I was sinking fast as it shows me going more than 40 feet below sea level!
My total run was 7.5. My plan was 9, but I started getting a blister about 1.5 miles from the car and decided to turn around. This cruise ship was pulling in just as I was driving away.
I came home and uploaded my run to Strava. I was surprised to see that I placed 3rd female overall on the Cooper Rd. Climb - the hill! I didn't feel fast, but I just kept running, sometimes that the best thing to do!

just keeping running is sometimes the best thing to do, great job on the run, that is some serious elevation change is a short distance!
