During the final weeks leading up to the marathon, your weekly mileage will drop off, but the intensity of the workouts will remain high. The idea is to rest, not rust. You'll want to get some time to recover, but stay sharp for race day.
I ran 8 miles on Monday and another 8 on Tuesday. I'm scheduled to run 7 on Thursday and Friday, then 15 on Saturday for a total of 45 miles this week... So when does that mileage drop off?
Looking ahead, I do see the miles dropping off next week. Saturday is my last run over 13 miles before the marathon. I have one 12 miler, then nothing over 5 miles for the next two weeks.
Unbelievable, it's just about here!
