So, I had to come up with a "ring" picture and here it is, the chain ring on my bike!
I took several pictures of this, only to have Les tell me "that's the cassette." Oops.
I haven't followed the Olympics very closely. The Women's and Men's marathons are interesting to me. It's amazing that they are more than TWICE as fast as me! I really cannot imagine running 26.2 miles in under 2 1/2 hours. The men race on Sunday and I'm sure they'll be even faster.
What do the rings represent on the Olympic logo, anyway? According to Wikipedia, it was originally designed in 1912 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games "...the six colours [including the flag’s white background] thus combined reproduce the colours of all the nations, with no exception. The blue and yellow of Sweden, the blue and white of Greece, the tri- colours of France, England and America, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Hungary, the yellow and red of Spain next to the novelties of Brazil or Australia, with old Japan and new China. Here is truly an international symbol."
Another truly international symbol?

That was definitely my favorite Olympic symbol!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know the facts either, thought it was pretty cool.
